News from The Chough |
|
Well ladies & gentlemen at last we have reached the 21st century here at the Chough Bakery and are now on line so we can keep in touch with our customers when they are not in Padstow. I hope that this page will develop into somewhere you would want to log on to when it is a cold grey day and happy moments spent in Padstow drift into your mind.I would like to keep you abreast of the developments in the Chough and the staff who really are like an extension of my family.
I hope to include News from Padstow and updates on the weather and any changes that are happening.
The news from the Chough is that we are trying to expand. Planning permission has at last been granted to allowing alterations to the grade 2 listed building that was always going to be difficult, but rest assured they are only internal alterations the external will always be "The Chough" as you know it. We are grateful to Our Landlords especially Liz who lives upstairs that they have given us more space and boy after the season we have had this year we certainly need it. I do not know if you are aware but the Chough is a courtyard building and we are filling in the gap.
Unfortunatley permission came too late to begin the work this year so it is on hold until the winter.
We applyed for a European grant to help us with this project so Instead of developing the Chough this year we are taking some of the production to the local industrial site.We have had help to find & fit in the machines to make life easier for the staff. Business Link are being fantastic in the person of Mark Norton my business advisor so we are set for big changes.Do not worry that we are having machines we will continue to strive to maintain the high level of products that we have become well know throughout the country for.We are also going to iontroduce new lines mainly in speciality bread
The staff are being as fantastic as ever. They have spent the winter on courses to lift the bakery to as high a level as we can. Rest assured we are going to be qualified in everything Europe can throw at us.
We have had a very busy season last year & look forward to another this.I would like to thank those people who hung on there in the queue when we ran out. I remember one day you just defeated us, the poor kitchen staff had been going from 5am the shop staff from 7.30 and there was to be a 10 minute wait until our next batch came out of the oven.
So I went outside to admit defeat to the queue and met and began talking to a gentleman who has been coming to Padstow for years.I think he convinced the gentleman behind him that it was worth the 10 minute wait especially as the sun was shinning & the band was playing. Well the upshot was new friendships forged. Both gentlemen when reaching the front of the queue and purchasing their selective wares, shaking hands and wishing each other the best. What a nice story in this frantic world we live in ?
I hope to give you things to laugh at, as customers you are a constant source of amusement and as my daughter says I use all your tricks when out shopping.
There is to be a recipe of the month page were I will give you the recipes we use and any help & guidance to produce what we do. All our recipes started in my kitchen and are still developed in the same way.
Also season fare there is a wealth of information and history to baking in Great Britain and I would like to pass on some of this knowledge to you all.
We have a customer comment box please use it, but please remember that I am new to all this technology but I hope it will keep the Chough Bakery alive when you are away from this special Corner of England.
Thanks for logging on, I hope that I can find the time to achieve my aims of this being a site worth a visit,
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT, CUSTOM & FRIENDSHIP THROUGHOUT THE YEARS
